The Shungitis is a metamorphic rock rich in carbon. It is very ancient, in fact it has about 2 billion years!
It is a carbonate rock of marine biological origin, formed in aquatic environment, most likely produced by the decomposition of algae and bacteria. This makes it one of the first biogenic rocks known. Its composition is similar to anthracite, but what distinguishes them mainly is their different genesis.
