The moissanite is a rare compound of silicon and carbon with a hardness of 9,25 on the Mohs scale, which makes it the second hardest mineral on Earth! High refractive indices and high dispersion give them exceptional brightness.

It is present in rocks of the upper coat and meteorites and was discovered in 1893 by Henri Moissan.

Because of its rarity, moissanite is now on the market of synthetic origin. The synthetic moissanite is produced in specialized laboratories through processes that recreate the natural conditions, resulting in a hard, tenacious crystal and with optical properties similar to the diamond.
