Description
The variscite is a little known gem, but thanks to its shades of green colour intense, enriched with black and brown veins, is a very pleasant stone to the sight; the color is given by small amounts of vanadium and chromium.
From a mineral point of view the variscite is an idrate phosphate of aluminum, 4,5-5.5 hardness, is not found in crystals, but in compact aggregates, from vitreous and waxy gloss, which take a good polyment once polished.
Its name comes from Variscia, the ancient name of the Vogtland region, in Germany, localsthe discovery of the variscite; australia and the United States are currently the largest producers.
